Drug Bust Leads To Surprising Stash
The Latest Headlines From KXAN.com
Austin Police arrest a suspect for possessing hundreds of marijuana plants, thousands of dollars worth of meth and a lot of guns.
Police describe him as armed and dangerous allegedly operating the most sophisticated drug operation they've ever seen.
The 28-year-old suspect charged with possessing nearly half a million dollars worth of drugs is out on bond Wednesday night. That's just one surprise twist in this case.
Uncovering a drug operation led police to arrest 28-year-old Brendon Hendrix. A string of surprising discoveries soon followed.
When searching his family-owned trailer in Buda, investigators say they found...
"The most sophisticated marijuana grow that we've seen in some time," APD Commander Harold Piatt said.
They found 414 marijuana plants in a computer-controlled atmosphere.
"They had CO2 gas inside controlled by a computer released into the air. They had the hydroponic fluids filled with the fertilizer also set on the computer," Piatt said.
A search warrant of Hendrix's apartment in south Austin turned up another surprising stash ranging from law enforcement gear including a badge and bullet proof vests to rows of weapons.
Police say one was even hidden inside a Bible bag.
"In the Bible bag he has a cut for a .45 caliber pistol," Piatt said.
Perhaps the most surprising to some is to learn just where Hendrix is now.
"He is out on bond and they are issuing a federal warrant for him," Piatt said.
The bond for Hendrix was only $20,000. He paid it and go out of jail less than a week after being arrested.
"Sometime we don't always agree with how the legal system works. We put in them jail, and the judge makes a determination as to how much bond and if he can make it. They're obligated to release him," Piatt said.
Although disappointed, police say it's possible Hendrix's bail was set low because he doesn't have a significant criminal history.
There is a federal arrest warrant was being issued for him Wednesday. News 36 checked all of the surrounding county jails -- Travis, Hays and Bastrop, they have no record of him in custody as of Wednesday night.
its a shame that the mj was involved but they should take the meth off the street.....copied from [url]www.pot.tv
