Resident faces drugs, weapons charges after raid nets plants, scales, cash and guns.
TROY -- A 48-year-old man was charged Thursday with several marijuana and weapons offenses stemming from a raid this week on an alleged marijuana growing operation at his Troy home.
Richard Norman Nash was arraigned before Troy 52-4 District Magistrate Donald Chisholm and held in the Oakland County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash, no 10 percent bond, pending a Jan. 17 preliminary exam on the charges.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said the arrest was the result of a three-month investigation by the Oakland County Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET), made up of deputies and officers from Troy, Royal Oak, Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield, Southfield, Lathrup Village, Hazel Park, Ferndale, Bloomfield Township, Madison Heights, Sterling Heights, Macomb County Sheriff's office and agents from the FBI and Drug Enforcement Agency.
On Jan. 2 officers searched a Webb Drive home. Investigators said the entire basement had been converted into a marijuana growing and distribution center, including three rooms built just for growing marijuana, another room to dry it once it was harvested, and a separate area for packaging and processing the marijuana into different size baggies ranging from ounces to pounds.
Among the items seized were 96 marijuana plants, a triple-beam scale, a counter balance scale, $81,232 in cash, six grow lamps, financial records and several guns.
Nash was charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana over 5 kilograms, a seven-year felony; two counts of felony firearm possession, a two-year felony; and delivery and manufacture of over 21 marijuana plants, a seven-year felony.
