Approximately 150 marijuana plants were confiscated from a house in Humboldt Hill Tuesday evening after firefighters responding to a call about a fire at the residence discovered an indoor growing operation.

At approximately 7:45 p.m., firefighters responded to the residence on the 6600 block of Humboldt Hill Road after an off-duty Eureka police officer reported seeing an electrical circuit breaker that was attached to the outside of the garage on fire as he drove by the residence, a news release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office stated.

The owner of the residence was not at the house when firefighters arrived and entered the garage to contain the fire, at which time they discovered the growing operation.

The garage was secured by Sheriff’s deputies, who obtained a search warrant for the garage and residence at approximately 10:30 p.m., the release stated.

In addition to the marijuana plants, which ranged in height from 8 to 10 inches tall, Sheriff’s deputies also seized six 1,000-watt growing lights from the garage, as well as $1,500 from inside the residence for possible asset seizure.

The case remains under investigation and arrests are expected to follow.
