Hey all,

Got turned on to this site just recently and finally got around to checking it out. In addition to other things, I'm a professional photographer. I'll be posting a new photography thread here shortly and help anyone with questions about cameras, lenses, software, lighting, etc. to help you take better pictures of your girls.

My next project will be time lapse photograpy. I'll show you seedlings sprouting, flowers growing and trichs forming on buds. It should be fun. I've never seen anyone do it with cannabis before so this could be a first.

And, yes, I use my real name everywhere I post. I'm a legal med patient so I'm not too paranoid :D I live in Washington, so if any of you are close by, drop me a line! I've already met some of our neighbors to the north...nice bunch those Canucks!

Steve

PS...I've attached one of my flower pictures ;)

Thanks for the welcome. I'll put up the photography thread as soon as I find out where the admin wants me to stick it (does that sound bad?)

I've been shooting for 35 years, so I can answer most questions you can throw at me. I did have a guy recently email me about how he could improve his photos with his current camera....I told him he'd have to spend more than $60 for a digital camera. Some things just aren't "fixable". :D

Heya steve, i missed this thread, welcome!
Ive tried the timelapse thing myself, used a program Timeshot and my web cam. Pics werent to good due to the shitty cam and hps lighting and the fact i train my plants so they got a lot of artificial movement
A lot more complicated then i first assumed..
Ive tried hooking up my kodak easyshare digi cam but to no luck.
What are you using to make your time-lapse?

stevesarich

Web cams are really not a good option for taking photos....they're barely good enough as web cams  This will be a project for a well known nutrient company...can't tell you who at this point.

For this project I'll be using an Olympus E-1 digital with a 50mm macro lense and a 1.4 teleconverter. The E-1 is Olympus' top of the line camera so I'm anxious to see what it can do. Some of the photos will be flourescents (the seedlings) and the rest will be studio strobes. Olympus has software that will fire the camera for time lapse.

In the photography thread I'll go into how to deal with the HPS problem. For this project I won't have to worry about it since the strobes will over-ride the light output of the HPS lights.

Nice to have ya on board. :cool2:

My father tried photographing me when I was a baby.

He stopped cause he couldn't afford to keep buying new lenses. :D :o

It can really be an expensive hobby. Now it's not so much the lense expense. It's having to replace your digital camera body every year...or at the most two years. But they're worth it. The pro level digitals are now able to challenge film cameras for most jobs. It's a major money saver....no more film!!! No more scanning film!!! Trying to do time lapse photography with film would be cost prohibitive. I'll end up taking thousands of images on each sequence.

man steve.. hear ya bro ,, hours scanning pics. ! then more hours down loading them onto the net. ugh.

& 35mm film COSTS . i started using Fuji Velvia slide film. love the quality. but finding it aint easy. & again its not cheap film.

well someday when i have money ! LOL

stevesarich
04-18-2005, 08:19 PM
You're right...Velvia is great film. I still use it in my medium format camera. But if you figure $10 per roll for the film, another $10 for processing and $20 for each high-res scan, you can pile up a lot of cash really quickly. The same images with a digital...$0. It's a pretty easy choice. Oh....forgot....all the trips to the lab picking up and dropping off film...and then it's on to the scanner. It's also easy to show a client images on your 21" monitor....try showing them a frame of film. I don't shoot film anymore unless it's for a large poster...then I'll shoot with my 6 x 7 cm.

Hey kids! Look what the fat fucker brought daddy this year! If you get over being really naughty and you're ready to get a digital camera, just follow the new Advanced Photography forum here. We'll be talking plenty about digital cameras and what features to look for and what to avoid.

:D :D :D Nice to meet you Mary! I'm not touching the ass comment :pimp: By the way, the reason the model was shot from that angle was because the model showed up with her face all broken out....thus all the shots were done from the "rear".

I found it pretty easy on limewire ,just put Cannabis time lapse in the search field. I tried to host it but the 39mb file is too big.

OK....maybe I'm a little slow. I tried limewire and the search engine wouldn't find it. Can you PM me the URL? I'd really like to see it!

I just searched for "lapse" video on limewire and it popped straight up.
If i can host it somewhere i will, and then post a link :)
Or if the webby wants me to send him the file so he can host it that would be cool ;)

Hey Mr. Douglas-thanks for the welcome. I'm really dying to start the time lapse project. Parts of it, like the seedling, won't take long at all. But I also plan to do a whole show...so a couple of months or more of shooting just for one short segment. I think it'll be worth it.
