i see a hundred diff peeps asking about how to mix soil, or what ferts to use, how much and how often. and i believe the answer to alot of those questions is compost. compost accounts for half my soil medium every year, and i wouldnt know what to do without it. i think that lack of good benificial material such as compost, results in the most common mistake growers make.....overferting. so lets start a tread on the perfect compost pile, and hopefully everyone can reep the benifits of it.
to start with, most peeps build a shallow box in the corner of the yard or somethin, and line it with plastic. and then just begin throwing all you composting material in there and let it rot!
feel free to chime in and let us know what u use for compost materials, and any other composting tips or facts u may have. thanx and happy growing.
my father started our compost pile when i was just a boy, so i just been adding to it for years. i started by putting all my used grow dirt in there. this is a perfect way to recycle all that expensive dirt. and other than that its just trash realy. heres some materials i use for composting along with my used soil.
table scraps- egg shells, bread, vegetables,coffee/tea grounds, fish guts, ect..
farm animal poo- horse, cow, chicken, pecock, goat, rabbit, ect..
plant matter- mj plant remains, yard leaves, water weeds, ect..
and anything that was living at one time, whether it be plant or animal, usualy makes for good compost material.
hope this helps someone to start a compost pile. and hope to hear lots of questions and suggestions about compsting.. ;)
peace out.
