Some signs that a house might be the site of an indoor marijuana farm:

-- The windows are often covered and the blinds drawn. There may be excessive condensation around the windows.

-- Electrical outlets may be rigged to divert power from neighboring homes.

-- The houses are largely unoccupied. People stop by periodically to mow the lawn or do other chores, then leave.

-- There are guard dogs, "Keep Out" signs or other security.

-- In winter, after a snowfall, the house may be the lone home on the block with no snow on the roof. (Heat from the lights often melts the snow.)

• Windows are always shut.
• Unkempt yards.
• Lack of activity inside and outside.
• Mail or newspapers pile up outside.
• New owners immediately begin heavy construction inside.
• Owners move in several items, but there is a noticeable absence of clothing or furniture.
• A three- or four-bedroom house has only one or two people seen there during the week.
• The presence of a strong smell similar to skunk odor.

Windows are always shut.
$build boxes around the windows inside and put blinds and lights in them to look as if someone has the lights on in the room....

• Unkempt yards.
$ once a week make sure the yard is taken care of! dont be a lazy stoner!

• Lack of activity inside and outside.
make sure someone is there almost at all times.....dont be scared!

• Mail or newspapers pile up outside.
$hahahahaha if you let this happen you deserve to get busted!!

• New owners immediately begin heavy construction inside.
move stuff in at night......if possible use no power tools for noise reasons and electricity...build everything at another location...leaving the assembling to do at the pad

• Owners move in several items, but there is a noticeable absence of clothing or furniture.again if this is done....you deserve to get popped!

• A three- or four-bedroom house has only one or two people seen there during the week.
bah! alot of people have home bigger than what they need!! look at the rich fucks that like extra rooms....this one is not that bad if you stick to your guns.

• The presence of a strong smell similar to skunk odor.
this can be helped with proper ventelation and carbon scrubbers in the growroom and a ozone hooked up to the outake and hempa filters in other rooms....

I have grown successfullt for several yrs in the damnest places...you can too be smart!! And don't grow big in a apartment...too risky and such

peace all:rasta2:

In winter, after a snowfall, the house may be the lone home on the block with no snow on the roof. (Heat from the lights often melts the snow.)

What can you do to stop this?

My initial thoughts are:
-Thicker roof insulation (good for saving on your heating bill too)
-Heat reflective sheeting
-Box in a void between the grow room and the ceiling

But does any one have any other ideas?

Also, I know that the police use helicopters with infra-red cameras to search for growers. Does any one know how effective/common this is?

If you are just growing closet style you have nothing to worry about as far as heat signature. I own a flir camera, and have tested it on mine, and a couple of buddies grows. Its all good. Also as far as the roof melting the snow, many houses have either insufficient insulation,or their heat running to high in the winter. That will also cause a roof to melt off prematurely, not to mention a black roof melts quicker too.

Relax!

I consider all above mentioned simple common knowledge.
I use a whole bedroom for my deal. I have never had one problem or anyone even having a slight inclination of me growing in my rented 3 bedroom home. Never really gave much thought about the choppers in the sky..:lite: Nevertheless be safe whatever you do..

If they did in fact use Flir to bust your grow and you could prove it the case would be thrown out of court. It is illegal For LEO to use in the USA, Canada not so much.....

So if there is a helo hanging around your house, make note of it take pics, whatever, then if you do have a problem you have it documented. It may save your ass.
