This is basically a pictorial version of most cannabutter recipes. The key to making great cannabutter is a double boiler. I found a nice one for about $20 at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

First, check your recipe to see how much butter/oil you will need. Most out-of-the-box brownie recipes call for 1/4 cup water + 1/3 cup oil (about 5-6 tablespoons). We decided to use real butter instead of oil becacuse that's what we had. Real butter (not margarine) has a high fat content, which is good for absorbing the THC.

NOTE: The double boiler needs only about 2" of water in the lower pot to be effective. The steam from this water will heat the upper pot. If you use too much water it might boil over.

Start with 6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) of butter in the double boiler:

On LOW-MEDIUM heat it should only take a few minutes for the butter to melt:

While the butter is melting get your trim ready:

I used 1/2oz leaf trim from my WWs and Skunk:

Once it was VERY dry (about 10 days after harvest) I put all the trim through my herb grinder to get this:

Because we used so much DRY leaf matter it soaked up all the butter quickly, and we had to add another 5-6 tablespoons of butter to keep the mixture moist:

Even though we had plenty of trim, I decided to add some of these buds (apparently from Maine) because they smoke too harsh for me:

After grinding up another 3-4g of those buds I tossed them into the mix:

For about 20-30 minutes let the mixture continue cooking on LOW-MEDIUM heat, stirring it every few minutes:

When it's done it'll look something like this, and it will have that very distinct odor we all know and love:
http://www.420-genetics.com/coppermine/albums/userpics/10020/brownies.09.jpg

Now we want to extract the cannabutter from the mash:
http://www.420-genetics.com/coppermine/albums/userpics/10020/brownies.10.jpg

Using a spoon, flour sift and measuring cup, press the mash into the flour sift with your spoon until the mash gets mostly dry:

When I finished mine there was a little more than 1/3 cup butter even though I used almost twice that much. Some butter will evaporate as you cook, and some of it will probably remain in the trim, but what's left is extremely potent. As you can see the color is completely changed. Although it looks brown in these pictures it's actually very dark green. Now you're ready to use this in your brownie mix or any other recipe that calls for butter/oil.

The remaining trim should be fairly dry and worthless. I threw it away:

Finally, the magic brownies:

These brownies are probably my best to date. Because of the double boiler none of the weed burned like it can do in a skillet. Also, using the flour sift I was able to keep 99.9% of the leaf matter out of the cannabutter so the brownies are a good texture and taste pretty damn good.

Around 11:45pm on 4/20 my roommate and I each ate a big brownie (12 total in the batch) + some scraps left in the pan. Within an hour we were feeling really good, and after another hour we were GONE. Around 4am I finally managed to go to bed but I was still really stoned! A small brownie is probably a better dose.

ENJOY

Nice thread MD. Last time I ate brownies I had a BAD experience. Wasn't the fault of the brownies though....my buddy thought that since the recipie called for 1 cup of butter that 5 would be better. They had a layer of pot butter 1/2" thick on the bottom and WAY too potent! Woulda been fine had he not tried to make a good thing better I'm sure.

If I may:
I've never used a dbl. boiler, just a frying pan, and saute (low simmer) the weed for 15 minutes, then I strain the mixture through a t-shirt, which has an advantage over using a strainer:
-no plant material gets through into the happy butter, and
-You can easily wring out every drop.
And once you've got the happy butter, you can use it in any reciepe that calls for butter; also spread it on toast or a cracker, or fry stuff in it (I once fried a magic mushroom omelette in hapy butter).

To remove the nasty chlorphyll taste:
-Dry/cure the weed just as if you were going to smoke it.
-Then soak the weed overnight in water (don't worry, the water won't remove the THC). Drain and re-dry the weed, crumble it up real good, then use it to make happy butter.

You can also saute the weed in milk (whole milk works best). Then you can use the happy milk in any number of reciepe's (2 years ago we made happy ice cream with vanilla and fresh peaches) or just drink it. Try adding it to coffee.

You can make happy oil for salads, happy yogurt--the list is practically endless.

You can also make happy alcohol. Put the ground-up pot in a bottle of say tequilla, keep in a warm dark place, agitate it once or twice daily, the after a week strain out the plant material and use the happy booze in any way you wish.

A WORD OF Caution:
You always will want to test the mixture in whatever form by taking a small amount the first time. The stone from eating pot lasts hours and is different than a smoked high. Too much can litterally leave you to stoned to move.

2 examples:
Sweet Marina ate too many happy rum balls at a new year's eve party a few years back and collapsed about an hour later (luckily her man Dan was there to "catch" her, and she was in the midst of 30 or her closest friends).

At one of my camping parties, Dan make some happy oatmeal/carob chip cookies. I asked him "how many" and he said "One or 2. (1 for a mild high, 2 to be blitzed).
Ben figured if 1 was good and 2 were better, then 4 would be fantastic.
About an hour later his girlfriend came up to us and said "Ben's in our tent and he won't come out."

In both instances, both Marina and Ben were amoungst friends who ould more or less look after them. The only down side was they were out of it for the rest of the night (although Marina recovered enough by midnight to sing Auld Lang Whatever).

I really want to try making brownies or cookies! Is it okay if you only use a 1/4 oz. for a stick of butter? Or what if I only use a half-stick of butter? The 1/4 is gonna be buds; not shake(obviously, I'll still break it up). <==Not sure if this info makes any difference. Please help!
