Here's how it work's.
The first pic is of the "worm-farm",the container's at the bottom contain water & "Pest-Oil" to keep the ant's at bay,the bastard's.
There is a tap there to colect the "juice" with.
The second pic is the "farm" at work,ya just add organic matter and let the little bloke's do their thing! ;)
Meat or onion's are a NO-NO,as the worm's don't like meat and it will atract flie's by the dozen,(flie's=maggot's :siskel: ),the onion's have too much acidic stuff in them for the worm's.
The third pic is of the "worker's" ! :ebert:
Pic #4 is what the little guy's produce, the darker stuuff on the right hand side is the worm casting's,the lighter coloured stuff is coco-peat and some river sand,i then mix the casting's and coco-peat together.
Then add the sand to the mix, then it's ready for the seedling's. :pimp:
It took the little guy's just under 12 month's too produce the amount of casting's you see here,it doe's take some time to get thing's going, but as you can see the result's are well worth it! :ebert:
Oh yeah, the "worm-farm" should smell like a "Pine" forest,if it don't overhaul it and start again !
Hope ya's like! :smoke2:

Love the pics Herb!! :ebert:
...me and my lil one has had a 2 composts for goin on 3 years and one is for worms so we have for fishing as well as gardening. BTW ...it is a great project to start with your family. My daughter is a lil nature girl like her mama so she got into it when we started. We dont have a fancy one like yours....just 2 fenced in bins in the back yard but it works like a gem! :D

We got the worm farm at cost price as it was "damaged" ! :D
An old guy had gone to the hardware store and thought that the worm farm was a seat and proceeded to sit on it, ,thus causing a coupla crack's in the structure, not that bad that you can sen them tho, silly old bugger, but saved the wife and i about $40 !!!
Um,ya got me confused with the dirt q Tib's !!! :o
When i "change" their home's,i use a coco-peat brick for their new home,it's called bedding material and they will eat through that as well ! :icon_smil

They are not that hard to make out of old tyre's either.
Ya just have to have a "catchment" area for the juice's.

I love my Can-O-Worms, which I've had for about 5 years. The red wigglers eat my best garbage. They really love those refridgerator science projects in living color. I also do not feed them meat, or fats and dairy, which smell bad and get harsh as they rot.
A trick I have learned which makes the raw worm food more readily available to the worms' tiny soft mouthes: I put all the peels and cores and parings in the freezer beforehand. This breaks the cell structure into bitesized pieces and allows the juices to leak out.
I make my own grow mix, which I call C4. It is composed of Coir, heat expanded Claypellets, horticultural Charcoal, and wormCastngs.
