Ok well i made my first batch of bubble hash today. I have a 7 bag kit, but since this is my first try i decided to try it out using just three bags. I didn't think to grab my camera until after i had everything in the works, but here are some pics. Along with some questions.
Here is the 5 gal bucket filled with cold water, lots of ice and trimmings from my Sensi Star

all of the plant material is removed in that last pic.Any ideas on what to do with this water. Can i make anything out of it. It looks and smells potent. Also, all of the pics i see of bubble hash in mags almost look like brownies, yet mine looks like green goop. Is this becuase of my lack of experience? Did I do something wrong? The trimmings that i used were from some very frosty nugs, so i know it isn't the quality of trim. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Way back when, when i had my first windfall of plenty of pot, i used an oz of my nicest bud( i look back and think what an idiot now) and put it through a two bag setup. What i got was very white, on my first wash. Not much mind you but it was kickass. Ill post some pics later.
My later washes produced a colour much like yours, so im thinking you just got a little plant matter in there.
My second mistake is i didnt press it, tried the wet newspaper in the frying pan trick and bashing it with a rolling pin, but just couldnt get it to mold it together.
So i spotted it on the knives LOL

well last night i tried to roll it like in the video. I ran into the same probs as kiwi. It simply crumbled, and now looks like kief. I have a kief box, i don't want more kief, i want bubble hash  Anyways, I did wait a while between scrapping it out of the bags and pressing it, do you think this is why? In the video, bubbleman presses right away and gets it to mold and stick together like clay. Thats what i want. Anyone got any info or tips?
Thanks-
Nesta

I've never done that before. It sounds like you waited too long. I think it dried out too much; while it was laid out. Well, good luck! :p
P.S. What are you gonna do with the "tea"?

Awesome draw there Nesta! I'm running a few pounds of trim this afternoon myself. My wife has our camera, so no pics of the process.... but I hope to post a finished product pic when I'm done. I press mine immediately after removing from the bags. I use the small cloth, wrapping it in paper towels and hand pressing for about 10 minutes before pulling the roller out. Here's a pic of my xmas run-

ah Racer, you've got what i want. :D That looks great. I am going to roll it right away next time, and see if i get better results. What do you mean by pulling the roller out? I was goin to wrap it in my 73 micron sheet and roll it in a towel. 10 min seems like a long time. Do you keep repositioning it? if you could give me a quick briefing on your rolling technique i would greatly appreciate it.
-Thanks

Thanks Nesta...
That was with the 3 bag kit....
Here's what I use once I pull the melt from the bags-

1-Roll of paper towels
1- medium size flashlight
1 roll duct tape
99 micron "hankie"
1-spoon

I wrap the duct tape on the bottom half of the flashlight until it almost matches the diam of the top half (of flashlight). This way- you've got a hard surface( the top end of the flashlight) and a soft surface with a hard suface underneath (the lower end with the tape on it). I'll explain why in a minute... I fold the hankie once and cover in paper towels. I then start rolling the flashlight (HARD END 1st) across the paper towels. You will see wet spots forming pretty quick! move the towels to a dry spot and roll again. Make sure you alternate rolling on both sides of the hankie. When you no longer get those wet spots through the double paper towel, I open the hankie, scrape off the chunk, fold it, and reposition the chunk on another section (near the center) of the hankie and roll some more. The spoon should help you removing the chunk from the screen (if the chunk sticks to the hankie). Repeat until wet spots disappear. If the hankie opens and the chunk keeps breaking up in pieces on the screen, use the soft end of the roller and more pressure, less paper towels, but keep rolling. For a 20-30 gram ball, I may fold it 8-10 times before I think it's dry enough to stop rolling. I then remove the chunk from the hankie and set it out on a papertowel for an hour before picking up and rolling in my hand. If the hash sticks to your hand (and the chunk breaks up or falls apart easily), it is still too wet & you must go back to the hankie and paper towels for a few more rolls (with the soft end of the roller). If it's not breaking up easily, roll the chunk between your thumb & first finger with a moderate amont of pressure. at the same time, use your other thumb and first finger to hold the chunk on the front and back of the chunk(using an equal amount of pressure to the sides) for 1-2 minutes. This compacts the chunk into a dense ball and puts a nice glaze on the chunk (I guess it's mixing with the oils in my fingers). Place the chunk in a zip lock bag & check twice in the 1st 24 hours. Within 12 hours, you should see moisture on the bag where the chunk is sitting. Remove and place on a paper towel while wiping out the baggie. replace and repeat in 12 more hours. If it's real wet the second time I check(only happened once for me), I let it sit out for a few hours before placing back in the plastic. If you let it sit out too long, it will get hard as a rock. I prefer a small amount of pliability in my chunk.

I like the 2 sided roller because the hard roller forces water directly out of the chunk & through the screen. The soft side seems to push the water off the chunk to a part of the screen that's not being used. If the chunk is wet and clogging the screen, the softer roller squeezes the water out of the side of the chunk, thus continueing the drying process without gumming up the screen trying to remove the clogged areas. I took a few snapshots of my latest run (end product only) & I'll post them soon. I gotta agree with the bubbleman.... If it don't bubble, it ain't worth the trouble! Hope this was helpful for ya.

*Edited- I used the flashlight trick this time and it worked much better than trying to hand press the majority of water out.... so I didn't explain the hand pressing.

Ya know....I was lookin at a womens fabric store :D and I saw quite a few different size micron screens. I think one could make a 3 bag kit on their own for under 30 bucks. They might need to know how to operate a sewing machine....but I think it could be done. I just aint gonna spent what the bubbleman wants for a set of his bags. Im gonna give it a whirl I think....cause if thats what you guys are gettin off your trim....im missin out!

great reply racer, that is exactly what i was wondering. I ran into the crumbling problem. Now i know what to do, so my next run should be much better. I will post it when i get around to it. Tibs, i think that making the bags wouldn't be that hard. You gotta find the right size micron screens, and some sort of heavy duty material for the outter bag. you prolly already read my other post, but i got my bags on sale on 4/20. it was a steal. Trash to Hash, you gotta love it.

I ran a small batch just to try your technique, and as you can see it paid off.
I used a very small amount of trim and came out with this little 6 gram coin. I definetly didn't roll it enough last time. It really becomes sticky the more you roll it. The color darkens alot the more you sculpt it. I just sampled some, and am completely amazed with the way it smokes. I gotta say i like smokin the bubble alot more than my kief and hash oil that i made from the same trimmings. Tibs, if you don't make your own bags, i would recommend buying some for your next havest. So far worth every penny.
Thanks again :animbong:

Thats a bomb little biscuit nesta!!

How much trim did you wash to get that 6 gram "coin" of hash?

Nesta
04-30-2005, 08:07 PM
thanks kid, I really don't know how much trim i used. I didn't weight it out. My last harvest is almost dry, so when it is ready i will do another run and weight it out to get the specifics.

Hey Nesta (& others), here's my end product from last week- Didn't weigh the trim either, but I borrowed a scale to check the end product-21 grams total. My best draw yet! I won't be doing another run until the fall (maybe) & I'll try to weigh the trim before I start.

Nice racer, 21 grams is a lot of hash. I have been smokin my buscuit alot, and haven't really put a dent into it. Should last you a while.

I would use more than three bags and you'll get a better separation of the goodies. The setup you had with the three bags dumped alot of junk into your 73u bag. The 73u and the 45u deliver the best full melt when they have their buddies above them ... the 120u and the 160u.

Youll also get a better quality of full melt when you mix for 15mins or less. You can always do a second run to get the rest but more mixing usually means just more particulate not a whole lot more trichs. The ice should be as cold as possible and the water stored in the fridge overnight. The coldness of the process will insure maximum results.

Then if you want a nice patty shape then press it with the screen material and leave it that way. Then put it on a credit card or other small non-stick surface and place it on your CRT display [ PC or TV works fine, the TV takes a bit longer ] for a day or two and it should be all dry. When its all done they are as dry as their going to get and look real purdy. Heres a recent sample of mine.

Well there were some inquiries on how much trim to use. Well i made another run today, and noted the exact amount of trimmings, and final weight.
I used 110 grams of straight trim. (all leaf, no buds)

and my final product was a 10 gram ball of nice clean bubble hash :D

Nice ball of hash!
I think that was 110 grams of trim, cause 110kg would probably make a bowling ball of the stuff :)

Thanks for the heads up, Heath... I'm gonna try that next time I run a batch of trim. Won't be for a while though, cause it takes time for me to accumulate enough to make it worthwile. I'm also scouting out the fabric stores for the mesh (thanks for the tip Tibby), cause my wife is a seamstress & she has agreed to make a few bags for me. I've got some WW germinating at the moment (thanks to an anonymous member!) and I can't wait to run a batch with those leaves!

whooo-hoooo! Nice blonde ball there nesta. Looks like it should smoke up excellent. The lighter in color and the less green in the product, the more pure.
Has anyone tried chopping and drying "before" pressing it?..I was told, that it needed to dry for ar least 48 hrs "before" pressing to obtain the best possible product. But, I have tried it both ways, and really coudn't distinguish much/any difference.

There was a chick making and selling homemade bags for awhile. I think any competent seamstress with the proper material and a quality machine could whip them out without much problem.
I don't think the material from a ..."womens garmet" store, would be durable enough. (Hell, that stuff rips right off women :p). Silk screen is the material used in the Bbags. Silk scren should be easy to find, too. And in the proper sizes. The actual 'bag' material, could be substituted for with backpack material, I would think. Maybe could find a couple old used ones at SA or Goodwill.
I'm not posiyive, but I believe silk screen is standerdized by color, orange is xx threads p/inch or xx microns, yellow is xx, ect. If so, all you need is for one of us that own the bags to give you a rundown of colors matching sizes, "Wall-la"..knockoffs!..;)

Be kinda carefull with wadding it up into one large ball shape. If it isnt completely dry it will start to form mold in the center and work its way out [ easy to tell when its all mucky grey compared to the nice dark brown of the good stuff ] Once that happens the moldy bubble tastes like crap and probably isnt that good for you to smoke.

well i do it all ways but my favorite is hot knife i just got over 3lbs of trim this morning and went thruogh and kept the high quality tips and leaves and came out with like 640grams so i will be doing a few runs in a while once i let it freeze for a while i will be sure to post pics when i am done:thumbsup:

btw i will be doing this in small portions not all 640 grams at once...
