Alright 420g community, I've moved and am rebuilding my grow set-up.

I still have the 250W HPS from my original grow, and will be using the light for my vegetative/clone/mother room. Yesterday I went to the store and got a killer deal on a legitimate 400W HPS. This is the light i will be using in a seperate flowering chamber.

My two areas are:
a large closet about half the size of a small bedroom. I'll probably use about half of this to build a flowering room. Also, a large walk-in closet in my bedroom, the back half of which will be my vegetative/clone/mother chamber.

I'm pretty excited about setting the whole thing up over the next week. I have a good ammount of money to spend on the set-up, so i'll do my best to get good ventilation and odor control going this time around. Those were the two biggest flaws in my original grow so im investing some time and money to straighten them out.

Alright guys, slight change in plans.

I decided that using a closet in the hallway of my house would be a little too sketchy. I think that i will now contain my grow space to the back of my walk-in closet. I'll try to have two mother plants at a time along with rooting clones a small "in-room" veg chamber. the majority of the room will be didicated to flowering. I know this reduces the size and thus the yield potential of the operation a lot, but i think that in the name of security and secrecy it's the best move.

Because i don't want to run two HID lamps in such a small area, i will be selling one to a friend who is moving to Colorado and thinks he wants to try growing while he's there. This brings me to Dilemma #1: Which light should i hang on to? I have both a 250W and a 400W HPS both in great working condition.

250 Watt Pros

-Uses less energy :) less overall cost!
-Less Heat Generated, less stress on plants wth lower temps
-Plants can be closer to the bulb, which means taller plants
-Longer chords to the light so i have more options with the ballast

400 Watt Pros

-More light and light penetration, this gets me denser buds
-Potential to expand room later or to move to bigger location

Also, I haven't decided yet how to build the closet. Right now i have a cylinder-shaped charcoal filter that measures 29" tall 12" in diameter. the fan that i mount on it is the same diameter, but adds approximately 9" to the overall hieght(or length depending on how you look at it...). In case anyone has any thoughts or wants to help me brainstorm this build, i've attatched some ghetto blueprints to give you an idea of what i'm working with.
No, they aren't to scale
Yes, I made them in MS paint

As for actual plants:
I planted 10 seeds of Amsterdam Seed Company's "Big bud" <--don't ask why i chose this strain. in retrospect it was a poor decision, but i'm hoping that I will still have fairly good genetics simply because it is from a breeding company.

The only way that i have ever germinated seeds is by planting them directly in soil and watering to keep the soil damp until they pop. So far it's worked well enough. I got 8 of my 10 seeds to seedlings this time around. The little guys have been growing for about 2 1/2 weeks and are looking great. I am planning on transplanting them into 1 gallon pots as soon as i get my closet built.

After the transplant, i am hoping to clone each plant for sex (this should be fun! I've never tried to take clones before but i've read all sorts of methods and i think i might be going with this one http://www.420genetics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=248) and hopefully find the best mother's out of the group and keep two of them. When i take the first generation of clones, i will probably top the plants to keep them from getting much taller.

SOOOOO if anyone wants to make a suggestion or tear my plan appart or whatever i'd greatly appreciate the feedback. Oh yeah, and pics to come when the grow room is built.

Sorry for making the post such a long read.
Peace Out

Hey everybody,

I've Had this setup runing for a while now, and have been taking pictures over the last few weeks. The 8 healthy plants grrew for a few months over the summer. I wanted to make sure they reached full maturity before i flowered them. Took some clones for sex, and they showed 6 female and 2 male.
These are the six females (each topped a few times) The day i put them into flowering

These are my first ever batch of clones on the same day; One or Two from each plant

I took some shots of the actual set-up today so everyone could get an idea of what i'm working with here.

Here is my ventilation system. Carbon filter was expensive but works flawlessly. I am glad i invested in it early on this time around.
http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/AirFilterandFan10-2-07_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=4751)

Here we have a wooden box holding the wiring and ballast and all that
http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/BallastandWiring10-2-07_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=4753)

I built a small vegetative box that sits on the far end of the growroom. I'm Running a 4-strip T5 flouro in the veg box, and i put all my storage crap up on top. In the box in this picture are Rooted clones, two in a homemade DWC system and the rest in soil. all are big bud except for the shorter indica plant.

This is the Big bud canopy at 12 days flowering. I've staked up the tops because true to the breeders word, these dont have the strongest stems. I'm not sure big bud plants are meant to be this tall. Those bamboo stakes are 4 feet long!

Last but not least, My original goup of clones. These look pathetic because shortly after they showed sex i tried to revert them to veg for about 5 days before deciding to just finish flowering them

Alright, After this one i'll be current.

These are shots of the canopy at 20 days flowering and after extensive trimming. Light penetration was low so the lower buds were developing too slowly, so i filled a box with fan leaves.

Heres the veg box today. The hydro mothers are looking phenominal, and i've taken sfive new clones tonight. I'm doing an experiment with my cloning style, im doing individual wick systems for each clone. Hopefully this will make transplanting to hydro systems easier.

I transplanted the sickly first batch of clones into one big pot to see if they fair any better. with a little more root space.

You have come a long ways Bar. Very nice set up as well i might add. A carbon scrubber is one of the most important things anyone contemplating growing should invest in. They really do work great:thumbsup: I am against topping myself, but it looks like it is working great for you this grow buddy. Soem strains really do not respond well to topping LOL.

How are you liking the t-5's?

Thanks guys,

I'm pretty pleased with the way everything is going.
SFC, I am actually against topping myself. Originally i had planned to keep the strongest two of these six big plants as mothers. I topped them to try and keep them short and make them branch. they stillgot too tall for the veg box so i flowered them and am using clones off of the strongest as mothers. Topping sure has made them big though. There are so many tops on there!
The T5s are awesome. the temps are way low and the growth is as fast or faster than under an HPS. They also dont have a ballast which is nice. I think it's worth the money for smaller grows like stealth boxes. But if you have a large space you should stick with HID. Much better production for your dollar.

see you guys later.

Nice job man

SFC, I am actually against topping myself.

SFC said something very important Bar.. Not all strains respond well to topping.
Very true. You could really screw up your plants yield potential. Keep in mind some respond very well to it, depending on the strain you are growing you should be inlclined to top only to bring you a bigger yield. You should read up on the deal bud..

Hey everyone,

Just thought i'd share whats happenin'

Harvest happened a few days ago. nugs are drying adn still in need of a trim
http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/Nugsfromfirstharveystdrying11-23-07_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=5129)
Honestly i expected a lot more. i'm not blaming the genetics though. I am giving the strain two more chances. One healthy shot at soil and one healthy shot at hydro.
The three, healthy, 1st gen soil clones are looking fine at about 4 weeks flowering. It seems to me that "big bud" should have a little more flower developement by now.
http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04709_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=5121)http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04710_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=5122)http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04710_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=5122)http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04711_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=5123)
The four, healthy 2nd gen hydro clones have been in the flowering room for not even two days. they are growing much stronger and faster then the soil clones did, and i think the nugs will be much danker.
http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04712_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=5124)
These three plants are just other strains i'm keeping alive in the Veg box. The taller on the left was very neglected for a little while so he looks pretty ugly.
http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04713_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=5125)
This bush is made of my two 1st gen hydro clones. They look amazing! Especially when you consider that i trim them at least once a week dto make them fit the box! they are making excellent mothers
http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04714_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=5126)http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04715_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=5127)
And this is a group shot.
http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04717_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=5128)

Well thats all i brought for show and tell guys. I'll try to get pics up more often

Hey guys,

I hadn't posted in quite a while so i thought i'd throw up some more recent pics for everybody.
First off, i re-disigned the garden yet again. i have a real wall and door now, not just a tarp with a zipper. still rocking the same filter.
http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04761_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=6012)http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04760_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=6011)
This used to be my veg box in the room, but these picks are a few weeks old and i've got the whole room running as one big bloom chamber right now. these flowering plants are also a few weeks old. i'm currently smoking the buds from the two plants in a single pot.
http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04757_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=6008)http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04753_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=6004)http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04754_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=6005)http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04753_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=6004)
Here is the two plants that share a pot on harvest day. they came out pretty well, i ended up with about an oz. and a 1/4 off of them. the smaller plant had some really dense nugs!
http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04764_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=6015)http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04763_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=6014)
Finally, because i had issues with drying my nugs i put this little box together. Its just a standard cardboard box from u-haul. all the little silver dots on top are $0.05 nuts anchoring lines of dental floss with clothes pins hanging into the box. On the back i taped 4 computer fans wired into cell phone chargers. Plugged all the chargers into an old surge protector. The first round of use went really well (took about 10 days until a jared and cured)
http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04766_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=6017)http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04767_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=6018)http://420genetics.com/gallery/files/9/3/5/DSC04765_thumb.jpg (http://420genetics.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=6016)

Hope everyone had a great 4/20 this sunday! see you later
