Im at this very momemt enjoying some fine smoke I grew myself. And I thought to myself how lucky i am to be able to do so. I then i thought of when I decided...ok this is it Im going to grow my own goddammit! it all happened when I found a seed one single seed. And it was like an epiphany! trumpets wet off, lights bulbs too.
I went to the internet and googled" mj cultivation" and from there it happened. The staggering city prices were too much for us and we were fed up of supplying the man. It was then and there...that one seed. When did you decide to grow?

I first started growing when I had seeds and no money. I was 19. Summer of 97 I grew some seeds outside along a river. I was sick of paying for it. I was just fascinated that I could grow my own with seeds I saved. Ended up having to bring them inside when the river flooded and a buddy finished them for me under his moms house.
I never looked back since. But occasionally im put in the position of buying still to this day.

The very first "lid" (oz.) I bought (Acapulco Gold, $10.00), I saw seeds.
The first thing I thought was "Hey! Now I can grow my own!"
The next day I planted my first seeds.

My first couple attempts at growing was when I was about 14. Growing in a pot on the window sill doesn't work. I didn't get serious about growing outdoors until about 7-8 years ago. Really I wasn't even that serious, just a plant ,or two here, and there. But over the last couple years I have expanded my knowledge of the Herb, and the quality has been grand. Man Tibs, for some reason I thought you were a little older than I was. :smoke2:

i planted that seed and as my knowledge of sexing the plant grew my excitement did also. The anticipation was killing me! And then one day it happened...it's a girl :D My illusions of having a tree to pluck the green whenever i wanted to get high and of course the ever grand illusion of giving my buddies bud for life were crushed when reality set in...it's an annual :(
But I grew on and on and im still learning and loving it :smoke2:

It was 1966, and like Ranger, it was Mexican bag seed. My first grow was a big success and I was hooked.

i decided to grow when i went looking for a bag and it took 6 hours of waiting and dealing with shady kids only to end up with 3.0 grams of wet, under developed beasters for 40$. So many times have i been severly let down when on the hunt for a sack. Once, i put my lighter to a bowl and before my eyes it ignited and burned down like a fuse, crackling and sparking! I rarely know what's up with the bud thats for sale. With homegrown its always going to be as good as you grow it, and I cant argue with that.

to grow your own should be a harmless endevour, but the law concerning mj has gone and fucked everything up. Instead people have to deal with organized crime, growers not paying attention to quality and selling off wet buds without a proper flush! that should be a crime imo.

once i found websites like gk and eventually overgrow i realized growing enough herb for a personal stash can be easy and take up little space.

My recent problems with cops however have shown that they dont fuck around when it comes to weed. especially people who grow it. For some reason they have it figured out that a personal plant is on par with the organized crime out for the money.

which has drawn me to the conclusion that growing weed is only worth it if you can do it safely and securly without anyone knowing or suspecting. :D

Its not about the money! (well, saving money)

First time I grew cannabis was under floros in a closet. No ventilation, the bowls had no drainage. I grew only a few ounces and kept at it. Eventually I found grow books and preceded to improve my harvests. At the time though, there were no H.I.D.s so indoors was a crappy way to grow. I found a steady supply and stopped growing for awhile. Few years later I moved south and was able to grow outdoors. After 5 years of growing outdoors, I landed a sweet job that had me travelling alot. I had to give up growing again. A new girlfreind and car accident led me to staying at home, but due to the G/F lack of smoking I was not able to grow my own. 4 years after we got together, the prices and a big move has led to another new round of indoor growing for me. The quality of home grown cannabis far outweighs the risks. I dont think I will ever stop growing unless there is a security risk. Thanks the gods for ganga!

I was 14 and had come upon some decent green bud with seeds we had only started smoking herb a few months prior and the thought of growing had crossed my mind quite a few times.

This was Florida, we had a crystal clear springs river flowing near our house called the Little Wekiva River found a somewhat secluded spot and planted just one seed there. The seed grew! and I had a vegging plant on my hands. Not knowing squat about growing pot the rains kept it alive as well as the rich soil next to the river. I would visit every so often and the little sucker had 6 branches by the time it was stolen.

The second attempt outdoors was with a friend in a pine thicket near his home at 15 we had 6 plants they too were stolen. The third was in the Wekiva National Forest with a friend when we were 17 we had 10 plants they made it 2 months and were pulled up. After that it was time to grow in trees we gave it a shot and someone(the guy I was growing with I believe) pulled them early he claimed someone else stole them whoever they were should of waited they probably got a headache at the most for how premature they were...After that I gave up on outdoor growing :o

Storm, I had pretty much the same situation. In high school all we got was crappy regs with lots of seeds. Once my friend and I tried to plant some of them in pots and then put them on the roof of my parents' house. Needless to say, it was a complete failure. Looking back now I'm sure it was for the best that it didn't work out. Terrible genetics + no horticulture knowledge would have produced more dirt weed, if anything at all.

Then I went to college and discovered "good weed" that made me feel like a fool for smoking the shit we got in high school. It was always seedless (sinsemilla), and I lived in a dorm my freshman year so I never thought about growing. Then about a year later when I was living in my first apartment my roommate and I got a bag of some excellent homegrown...and he found ONE seed. Immediately I started researching on the web and planted our little seed in a very small pot. Luck was on our side and she turned out to be a she, and I was able to clone her to keep the strain going. The rest is history! :icon_smil

It was really easy for me to tell when it was time for me to grow. My girlfriend had never smoked, and after talking, her olny reason for not smoking left was, "you don't know what they could be putting in that street weed." Which, I thought was a little out there, because almost every other drug is more expensive that pot, but hey I figured I'd respect that.

The next day on a walk through the woods with my girl, we saw a dime sack on the side of the trail with just 3 seeds in it. And I asked her if she would try it if I grew my own, and she said, "sure, that I wouldn't have to worry about." I planted those little seeds, and now I'm working on my very first grow.

I started my sophmore year of college. i was sitting around with my roomates, ripping a bong when i found a few seeds from some herb we had been tokin. I decided to stick them in the ground outside our house just to see if anything would happen. I really had no true intentions of growing. well, about a week later i was walking back into the house when i noticed two little sprouts popping out. Long story short, went to Lowes, got some flouresent lights, soil, and pots, set it up in my closet, and i have been hooked ever since. :animbong:

The year before last was my first real "success". :ebert:
And this year, all the learning and hard-work paid off for me. :D

You too HG:rofl:

Man I honestly didnt believe growing herb outdoors was even possible without getting ripped off for the longest time. The only success Ive had is indoors concerning the rippers issue and if they want to come in theyre welcome but the catch is they'll be leaving with a few large pellets embedded in their ass.

I was about 18-19 years old and planted a few seeds and a couple came up but never really did anything much. Tried again at 21 and things were going really good-got found and gone. 3 years ago it was mid to late june and no weed arround and what was arround was shit. Well we were sitting on the deck looking up the lake smoking some real shit weed the wife says since you grow all these plants and trees why don't you try growing some weed. I thought for a minute and said i think i have some seeds from some of that good weed we had awhile back. Went and got them and poked a few of them in with my flowers and said if they come up then we will try. They came up and i got on the net and searched and found GK and OG. Found out about sexing plants and ended up with three females. The next couple grows were bag seed and then i met Jay. He was my bean man from there. After my second grow i went DWC and the rest is history. Now i'm the proud owner of AK-47. DPBB- Kali Mist- NL-WW- Shiva shanti ll -shooting star-mother plants which i'm triing to find a home for. Going to take a break for a while.
