View Full Version : Repairing The Damage

Remember the movie Treasure Of The Sierra Madre'?
If not, when H. Bogart and the other 2 guys get all the gold and are getting ready to leave, the old guy says "Now we have to repair the damage we've done."
In other words, the mountain had been very good to them, and the 3 guys worked to help heal the scars they had made upon the land.

Pot smokers should adopt the same mindset.
First, do as little damage as possible to the land throughout the prep and grow.
Avoid cutting down anything. Trimming a few braches off surrounding brush/shrubs here and there is ok. And moving around rocks and deadwood is also ok.

Organic nutrients should be used, and avoid too much, to prevent it from getting into the water table.
Any pesticides used should also be organic, and applied as sparingly as possible.

In my many hikes, I have come across other people's gardens. I would leave without doing anything except leaving footprints.
But once I followed a small footpath, and when I got to the grow site I was appalled.
Some idiots had cut down 250-year old manzanita trees (older than the United states). In addition, there were piles of trash. Empty sacks of soil (you'd think that if they carried in full sacks of soil they could carry our the empty sacks, right?), empty cans of toxic pesticides and chem. nutes close by a stream, along with empty food cans, food wrappers, etc. and other assorted garbage.
I cut all the pot plants down, and I don't regret it.
I also left a note explaining WHY I cut them down, and wrote that, if in the future I found similiar sites I would do the same.

So be kind to our Mother (Nature) and she will reward you.

P.S. I probably did the growers, and certainly the smokers a favor. From the looks of how much toxic pesticides they used, anyone who smoked that pot would have almost certainly gotten sick.

Why the hell did they cut the tree down? Was it in the way or something? (i'm not saying that would justify their action) How many plants were there? Also, how far along did the plants look like?

They didn't just cut 1 tree down, they cut down/damaged to the point of killing prob. at least 8 tree's.
Presumeably to allow more light to get in.
Or maybe they were stupid enought to think they could use fresh-cut wood as firewood.

The plants were just starting to bud.
