I am surprised more of you hippies and psychadelic-o's havent posted this yet. So, I thought I would post it up, so everyone can pay homage (sp) to the inventor. Some of us have enjoyed LSD, and some, like me, have had it enhance their lives through intense intro and outro spection. I havent done acid in a long time, and probably wouldnt do it again unless I could control the dosage like in pure crystal or liquid form.
Well, a little ergotimine, some lysergic acid, and some amonia hydride (I think?) and you too can make your LSD to trip and enjoy.
Below is a clip from an article on him. Enjoy.

L.A. Times, April 30, 2008

His accidental experience of 'an extremely stimulated imagination' caused by the drug led to a lifetime of experiments and initiated the psychedelic generation.

Albert Hofmann, the Swiss chemist who discovered LSD and thereby gave the psychedelic generation the pharmaceutical vehicle to turn on, tune in and drop out, has died. He was 102.

Hofmann died Tuesday morning at his home in Basel, Switzerland, of a heart attack, according to Rick Doblin, the head of MAPS, the Multidisciplinary Assn. for Psychedelic Studies.

Hofmann also identified and synthesized the active ingredients of peyote mushrooms and a Mexican psychoactive plant called ololiuqui and developed at least three related, non-psychoactive compounds that became widely used in medicine.

Those other feats would have been little remembered, however, had he not accidentally gotten a trace amount of an experimental compound called lysergic acid diethylamide on his fingertips and taken the world's first acid trip.

Hofmann was a talented synthetic chemist working in the Basel research center of Sandoz Laboratories -- now Novartis -- in the 1930s when he began studying the chemistry of ergot, the common name for a fungus that grows on rye, barley and certain other plants. Although ergot is poisonous, midwives had used a crude extract for centuries to induce labor in women.

Twenty years earlier, researchers had isolated ergotamine, the first ergot alkaloid isolated in pure form, and the compound had become widely used for halting bleeding after childbirth and as a treatment for migraine headaches.

In the early 1930s, American researchers had identified the primary active ingredient of ergot, a chemical called lysergic acid. Hofmann devised a technique to make a series of derivatives of lysergic acid called amides and began systematically looking for medically useful compounds.

The 25th compound he synthesized, in 1938, was lysergic acid diethylamide (in German, lyserg-saure-diathylamid), or LSD-25. Because this compound had a chemical structure similar to an existing drug called Coramine, Hofmann had hoped that it would be a stimulant for the respiratory and circulatory systems.

But testing in experimental animals showed no significant activity for the drug -- although the animals were observed to become restless after its administration -- and it was abandoned.

During this period, Hofmann synthesized at least three amides that became drugs: Methergine, used to halt bleeding after birth; Hydergine, which improves circulation in the limbs and cerebral function in the elderly; and Dihydergot, used to stabilize circulation and blood pressure.

Prompted by what Hofmann later described as a "peculiar presentiment" that LSD-25 might have properties other than those established in the first investigations, he decided to look at it again.

On Friday afternoon, April 16, 1943, Hofmann had just completed synthesizing a new batch when, he subsequently wrote to his supervisor, "I was forced to interrupt my work in the laboratory in the middle of the afternoon and proceed home, being affected by a remarkable restlessness, combined with slight dizziness.

"At home, I lay down and sank into a not-unpleasant intoxicated-like condition, characterized by an extremely stimulated imagination. In a dreamlike state I perceived an uninterrupted stream of fantastic pictures, extraordinary shapes with intense, kaleidoscopic play of colors. After some two hours, this condition faded away."

Hofmann suspected that the state had been caused by something in the lab. In an interview on his 100th birthday, he said, "I didn't know what caused it, but I knew that it was important."

After breathing the solvents he had used produced no effect, Hofmann suspected that the synthetic drug was the source. "LSD spoke to me," he said. "He came to me and said, 'You must find me.' He told me, 'Don't give me to the pharmacologist, he won't find anything.' "

The next Monday, he took what he considered to be an extremely small dose of LSD, so small that a similar dose of even the most powerful toxin known at the time would have had little or no effect. He had planned to gradually increase the dosage but instead was surprised to encounter the first bad acid trip.

Feeling bad, he asked his laboratory assistant to accompany him home on his bicycle, no cars being available because of World War II restrictions. During the trip, "I had the feeling that I could not move from the spot. I was cycling, cycling, but the time seemed to stand still."

By the time they reached his home, its furnishings had transformed themselves into terrifying objects.

"Everything in the room spun around, and the familiar objects and pieces of furniture assumed grotesque, threatening forms," he wrote in his autobiography, "LSD: My Problem Child." "They were in constant motion, animated, as if driven by an inner restlessness. The lady next door [became] a malevolent, insidious witch with a colored mask."

Hofmann thought he was dying and sent for a doctor, but the physician could find nothing wrong.

LMAO, what are you Mormon? HAHAHAHA

Nothing wrong with any drug. Its drug abuse that is a problem for some. ANd even then, it's usually all about the drug being abused.

Dr. Hoffman deserves every pot smokers gratitude. If it werent for him, there would never have been hippies and the hippie movement as we know it. Without the hippie movement, we would be 40 years behind the current state of the understanding of cannabis. The hippies brought a new light on cannabis, and although the laws are still draconian, the overall attitude towards MJ usage is far different because of the hippie folk.
We current cannabis users, whether recreational or medicinal owe a lot to the hippies, and therefore Dr. Hoffman who invented LSD-25, and therby created the catalyst for the hippie movement. Special mention of course goes to Dr. Robert Owesley who first mass produced it for mass recreational use, and therefore should not go unmentioned when discussing the pertinent factors of things. Its all about history my friends.

So, stfu and pay your respects ya stashhat! LMAO :D

when i was younger i did my far share of Acid. the best was in liquid form witch was the cleanest and most intense i ever tried we called it (the 25). nothing like some of the window panes or 10 strips being sold it was so good it dont compare to any other Acid i tried. the next best were the blue gel tabs that also was very clean but not as visual.
but the best mix for visuals that ive experianced is a blue gel tab, an orange micro dot, and a half 1/8 of some good mushrooms. like 5 of us did it and went paint balling in the woods after an hour when we all ran out of Co2 and pretty much turned into wild animals for the next 12 hours running around the woods in the dark. LOL NEVER AGAIN i think i had my run with it i have to many mental problems and i dont think some acid would help much

IME, dosing has always been what you make of it. What I mean to say is that whatever mindset you have going into it, will be exagerrated (sp) and intensified. If you are scared or nervous or hopeful and insightful or freaking out or relaxed will all be amplified.
My best trips were when I had the mindset of enlightment. I wanted to delve into the insights of the brain that my normal thought pattern skipped over. I wanted to learn, to think about the ordinary in an extraordinary manner. Those were the good trips, and the ones I reflect upon to this day. Those trips actually helped me understand who I am...(pardon the intense introspective of myself here..)
Perhaps, if your mindset is right, a good trip with Lucy might help you. Or maybe something more controlable, such as shrooms.

As to your comments, I agree 100%, the L25 was the best I ever did. So so very very clean. Incredible. Had some excellent Cool Snoopy blotter in the late 80's, very intense.

I could tell some good stories about baking. But thats a whole nother massive thread in itself.

Haha, all I need is some ergotimine and lysergic acid....rofl...

LSD has played quite a large part in who I am. I have tried many different things however I have never had the respect for any other drug, (for some reason I don't class MJ as a drug:rasta2: ), as I do for acid. My friend I get mine from has had the same nice clean liquid for at least 15yrs, and anyone who tried my drops, admit they have never had acid that nice, visual and clean. I havent eaten any cid in a year or so however, have a bit of a vial saved for special occasions, maybe the next Zavier Rudd concert:thumbsup: . I actually prefer to drop by myself in the bush but every now and then at a good music festival, particulaly Jaz.

Acid is as spiritual as anything can possibly get. Did it at a halloween rave (Yes, I know your thinking "Omg, could there possibly be a worse palce to take acid") with every one dressed up as something or other. But I feel comfortable at raves and I went into the trip with a possitive mindset and I spend pretty much the whole night trippin' my balls off my the massive sub-system raving out to Dark Psytrance... Probably the most "fuck you up" music to listen to on acid and it ws bloody brilliant

Went outside for a few reefers now and then ofc :blaze:

One of the tunes the DJ slapped out was made out of a chainsaw noise and a clowns laugh... took me a while to realise and I did stop raving and sketch out for about 5 secs... But then I remembered where I was, and continued to rave
:party2:

I know exactly what your talking about Grass.
I spent around 10yrs a DJ and I only play Dark Psy. A couple times I have just left the world completely immersed in sound and travelling through the mind, only to have a sample kick in and wow, thats right, back into it. Used to love my outdoor events but prefer smaller more intamate crowds, too many youngens getting around with no respect these days wanting to make a fool/name for emselves.
Only party once or twice a year now, (Infected Mushroom plays on my BDay every year here and a good friend throws a new years bash), and don't seem to need to take anything anymore, just love the beats.

He who is a DJ and plays Psytrance is a god

Gotta be my fave form of music Psytrance, and Dark psy just gets into your head. Beautiful tunes, and yeah I don't even need the drugs to actually space out to them.
Ahh yeah Infected bring out some absolute killer tunes, love them. :blaze:

Heh, funny thing is, I just woke up 15 mins ago from raving all night
