What is the major cause of root rot and what can be done to treat and prevent it? It seems to be a constant battle in hydro. About the only thing i haven't triied is distilled water. Well, i did when i was in buckets but it takes way to much now to haul water. I have three systems running and all are set up the same. One system gets it and the others don't. Anyone have any ideas?
one major problem is water getting to hot..... as in the temp. You can put bottles of frozen water in the res or buckets. Also, a cause could come from not enough circulation, which in turn does not mix the nutes. This can cause a slim build up especially if you use additives like Liquid Karma or Floralicious, which are thick dark additives.
hope that helps......

My res. temps stay in the high 60s to low 70s. Don't think they get any higher than 72. I use Holand secrete 3 part system but have had trouble with others as well. Before i set up these systems i ran a 10 percent clorox solution for an hour to sterilize then as sugested by tech department. Don't know, at a lose.

A main cause of root rot is the roots are too wet too long.
A second cause if there is not enough oxygenation of the water.

I've read that it can be strain related as well.
I need to look up where I've read this and i will post it for you.
I've had it once, soaked my ladies roots in a hydrogen peroxide wash.
They never recovered...

I think Ranger hit it on the head. My cycle time was probably off and was looking at my air flow through the system. Started thinking about how much air i had on my last very good grow. There was no comparison between the two. Now there is alot more air flow and a proper cycle timer. Started useing a product called Hygrozyme to help out the root situation. Have noticed new root growth so maybe they will make it through it. Hope so. Will post my findings.

I have been triing a plan that my hydroshop has suggested. It involves the use of hygrozyme-H2o2-sm90 and alot more air flow through the nutrients. Is there a cure? Don't think so but with useing this stuff along with your regular feed program- have developed some new root structure and the plants are budding again. It definitelyhas been a crop saver for me. The H2o2 may not be compatible with some organics.
