OK..... I am using these pots for hydro....drip system. They are 14" tall and 4" wide at top and tapper down a little. They are grooved inside to help the roots travel down and out and prevent swirling. The square design allows 20% more root growth than conventional round pots and creates a deep root system. Square design requires less growing space. I bought them at...Stuewe & Sons (http://www.stuewe.com/products/treepots.shtml)
I am doing my first run with them now....into week 4 of flowering. So far, they have huge stems and are very large and healthy. Here's the pot..

Now......As of now and before when I used shorter pots, I use Lava Rock and Clay Pebbles for filler and put the 1" rooted RW cube and bury in pebbles.
Next couple pics show my current plants in these pots with the rock and pebbles as filler in the pots.

OK.........now that we are up to speed........my question is this.....
Can I take a 4" RW Cube and stick into top of pot.....and just let the roots grow down inside without any medium inside pot??

The tables they will be on are pretty much light proof under neath the syro-foam insert the pots slid into. There are 32 individual holes cut out......one for each pot. The styro-board sits on top of my 8x4 E&F tray. This is the table I will use.... I have 2 in the same room......

ANy thoughts on no medium under RW Cube?? With it being a drip system it will drip once every hour for 1 minute. I feel the water will drip over roots kinda like NFT.....but not drown them like DWC because of not alot of water at one time?? I also feel the taller the pot....the longer your roots can grow....in turn growing a bigger and taller plant.
Whats your thoughts?? :icon_stud

Wow...dude nice set up, love those pots!!!

I think your theory will work. Those roots in that tall pot will get really long and I agree about the result: a bigger plant. I also dont see the need for a medium under the the roots will have somewhere to go, the laws of gravity play a role as well, and the roots will drip dry per say aye? The pots are dark and I see a positive outcome.

Edit: You do use the rockwool? I am seeing no need for the hydroton beneath the rockwool cube, it will be interestign to see.

thanks for sharing, very interesting indeed and I'm looking forward to the end result :smokin3:

As long as the container underneath the cube stays moist so the roots don't dry out. You might have to run the on time a bit longer so the solution drips out of the cube. But you can test the timer before you throw your plants in. Otherwise you should see great results with the increased amount of air gettting to the root zone.
Worst case, if they do get too dry, throw your hydroton underneath the cube.
