It's a crying shame. And it's NewScientist. Thatt's an easily to digest source of science, but nevertheless S-C-I-E-N-C-E. And the articles are usually quite good: Bipedal humanoids, nanobots, ect.
But that screwed up article is some rendered propaganda shit. It starts with the improper naming of the weed and continues with very vague speculations about growing and breeding. The conclusion - dubious at least.

So since I'm not that good in judging bipedal robots and nanobots, I'm beginning to doubt whether that articles are well investigated.

Anyway, I'm still there and grumpy as always.
