Hey everyone. I'm developing a passion for preserving as well as working with Hawaiian strains. Some of my favorite CannaMemories are connected with Hawaiian buds. I realize that due to the tropical sativa tendency to produce "fluffy" flowers that result in lower that hoped for bag weight that many Hawaiian strains have almost ceased to exist in their original uncrossed states. I am hoping to travel back to the islands this summer and hope to find some brother and sisters that have a similar interest and can share the genetics with me. I would also like to hear from anyone here that can give me any information or thoughts on this subject. I plan to first of all, breed a good size seed crop which I can then work with without loosing the original:surfing: genetics and then working with other strains to see if I can keep the effects and flavor of the Hawaiian and see whatever happy accidents I may run across. I would be interested to hear any stories or advice from you good folks. Aloha!!:surfing::surfing:Feel free to PM me if you like.

Aloha!
First off, D9 is correct, no such thing as a landrace Hawaiian. Cannabis is not native to the islands, all cannabis genetics there were brought by there by man. Most often from Asia, which explains the sativa.
Now, most of the taller sativa dom strains that used to be found on the islands have been bred out to be smaller and finish faster. So finding a true non hybridized strain is going to be difficult. But it's not impossible. I had some Maui Wowie seeds about 2 years ago. Unfortunately a security breech forced my garbage disposal to eat the beautiful plants that came from them.
I wish you good luck on your endevour.
If going to Oahu, be sure to hit the North shore and the break called "Marijuana". Nothin says chilling like smoking a fat marijuana joint, at marijuana, before you go play in the blue waters and ride some nice waves.
Cheers

Hey Useless, Hey D. It's good to hear from you both! I can dig what you're telling me about Landrace strains and it makes me wonder if these genetics first brought to the islands were for use as hemp fiber or for medicinal or recreational purposes?!!! Some time ago I had some Crown Royal beans from Federation Seeds that had to be abandoned rather quickly and I still have some Spice seeds from Mr. Nice that I doubt are still viable. I know that Federation Seeds has a Hawaiian Sativa and that Nirvana has a Maui Wowie and I'm wondering if these are, if not pure, at least GOOD representations of Hawaiian genetics. Has anyone worked with these? Thanks for the advice. Gettin' ready to go check out THC EXPOSE at the LA Convention Center and see what's up with the industry. Mohalo.:surfing:

My guess is that the Cannabis originally brought to Hawaii was a drug cultivar.
I have only worked the Mr. Nice Spice. It had a great tropical flavor and the buds were tight, trichome covered goodness. I have some pics in my gallery. Go to the older pictures.
I would be wary of any Nirvana strain being original or authentic, especially Maui Wowie.
How was the THC expose? I didn't get a chance to go.
