They're two distinct strains, therefeore f1. Besides that the afghans are already an IBL. I only choose the term f1 to mark that the offspring was derived from a breeder pack.
Basics: P1 x P1 (parental generation) => F1 (filial)
F1 x F1 => F2 and so on, usually you can start to speak of an IBL when he third filial generation (F3) is reached. They should get more uniform along the way. Now, Blue Mystic x Bubbelicious would be Mystic Bubble or Blue Bubble, Blue delicious or Mystic delicious, maybe Mystically Delicious even?

Bubbelicious x Blue Mystic, Bubble Mystic, Bubble Blue, Delicious Mystic ore Delicious Blue. That's only a name game usually it's: Female x Male

I thought the rule of thumb for an IBL was 5-6 generations.
Even though the Afghan is an IBL, when used as a parent it becomes P1 regardless of its pedigree. Then if crossed with Moroc, the resulting offspring are F1. If you grow the offspring and cross a male and female of the F1 generation, then the resulting offspring would be F2. Keep going to F5/F6 and you have a new IBL if you used selection throughout the breeding.

Bubblelicious (P1)+ Blue Mystic (P2) = (whatever you want to name it) F1.

Dont confuse using the labeling of Parental stock (P1, P2 etc) with using polyhybrid seeds for breeding. They are different. Your P1 can be an F2 (or F anything) of a polyhybrid, but as soon as you use it for breeding it is also a P1 or P2.
I think thats what you were trying to get at?

I was hoping for you to explain that use, I have my clumsy day today. The F3 beeing IBL already was confusing me as well, since I thought F5 or F6 would be that. I found that somewhere. Anyhow with a good selection they should be quite uniform at the F3 stage nonetheless, maybe that was what that was all about. Did I say I feel clumsy in explaining today, already.

You are correct that if proper selection is used, you will have a somewhat stable line at F3. And even more so at F4, by F5 it should be pretty stable and uniform. Providing you are selcting dominant traits through out the breeding cycle.

Maybe you are thinking of the cubing process? Or backcrossing. If using a non dominant male (this is key) to outcross from a choice female clone, only about 3 bx's should be needed to get you pretty darn close to the original female. But again, its about selection. And of course, just like inbreeding, the more bx's you do, the more it should resemble the original female clone.

So basically Delta, Just do it. Unless you are committed to smoking the same bud for a couple years years you are not going to get to F5 anytime soon. Just make your cross and enjoy it. I have given away 100's of F1', F2, or S1 whatever,and never a complaint. Savvy?

That is cool that you're getting into breeding.

I think the most fun part would be watching the differences, selecting the ones you prefer most (based on smoke, yield, smell, etc) and then using those... etc... etc...

Someday when I own my own home this may sound like a fun and possible activity. It would be cool to make my own beans and know they are 'good', as opposed to simply making jimmy fuck janet and hoping the babies are just as good as they were... (yes, i just made those names up)

Rock on Delta. I think your answers are already posted earlier in the thread.

Actually I thought that over and over. When breeders tell you not to breed their seeds, that actually means their selections are crap, because they don't produce any viable offspring. A few that encourage breeding are B.O.G., DJ Short, OG Bub, just a few that come to mind.

It is also in the "breeders" best interest to have you BUY their seeds. Savvy. I always say follow the money.
