Default F2 x F3 gen

I was just wondering about making beans by using an f2 and f3 of the same strain.

For example, if i take a f2 gen Bubblegum x AK-47 and an F3 Bubblegum x AK-47 and make seeds, what do you think would be the outcome.

Would it just set me back on the progression of creating an IBL?
Worth a try?
Or dont bother?

Im not too positive here, but Im sure one of the genetic gurus will help correct.

Im sure crossing an F3 back to an F2 will result in alot larger variation/ratio of pheno types in the offspring then if you stuck with crossing both F3's with your given/progeressive chosen traits.

You'll likely get a backcross with more variation as the F3 and less than the F2, depending on selection. Depending on your selection your goals with the IBL can be easier or harder to reach.

I'm however unsure about the F notation of the offspring. F 2.5 maybe, lol

Default Dunno For Sure

but I think you are ALL right........when I planted my F2's from my TANGLEWEED (random indica), I also planted another F1 & like the original F1's it came up with weaker charachteristics(& a mom).....a tendency to yellow & rot(too much H2o).....the F2's were greener, shorter, healthier(all coming from the 1's).....a late maturing daddy got past me or I had hermies cause there was limited seeding on all remaining plants but only on the lower buds??...........I called the seeds fr the 2's my F3's (now under lights & even more healthy than the 2's)........the seeds from the F1/F2 I labeled.....1.5 (I later discarded them) & have 2's & 3's in "storage"......

I think(& do NOT mind being corrected) the variation issues cuts in either direction you can get more or less depending on your choices & of COURSE NATURE.....

if i were you i would grow out and selectively cross the F3's making F4's then grow the F4's and make F5's if you selectively cross them then you should end up with a stable IBL.

Backcrossing the F3 to an F2 is really only beneficial if there is a trait present in the f2 that does not appear in the f3 generation. The backcrossing would allow you to find the recessive trait.

Everything stated above is correct also.

Cheers

Thanks a million too all of you. I kinda figured it would set back progression but never hurts to get a gurus advice. Im working on a few crosses and didnt want to try it before getting this advice.

I cant believe i finally started a post that got so many responses so fast.
